RESEARCH INTEREST

Research interest in examining factors may lead to vulnerability to mental health problems and factors that promote resilience following trauma experiences and the use of such factors in therapeutic intervention.

Perinatal trauma experiences affect women and their subsequent parenting. How Attachment (caretaking experiences) is related to parenting (caregiving experiences) following a trauma experience.

As part of her PhD research, Dr. Budak used qualitative and quantitative research techniques in five separate studies in the pursuit of understanding women’s perinatal trauma experiences.

Two separate ethical review process were completed for the studies of the PhD research.

Numerous international organisations supported the PhD study (e.g. SANDS, SHARE, BTA) advertising the research to recruit participants for the research.

An online site was set up by Budak for data collection. An impressive return rate was achieved where a total of 420 participants were recruited for the research

During her MSc degree Budak was interested in personality traits (locus of control and optimism) in predicting physical well-being. During her research Budak adapted two psychometric measures to Turkish culture: Multiple Health Locus of Control (MHLC) scale and Perceived Health Competence Scale (PHCS).

Budak studied at the School of Medicine (Epidemiology), University of Manchester as part of her MSc study as a visiting scholar. This post added so much to her career as her research foci, which was on health and positive psychology, was, at the time, under-researched in Turkey
